Types of Social Grants
SASSA administers a wide range of social grants aimed at supporting different segments of the population. These grants are designed to reduce poverty and inequality and to ensure a basic standard of living for the most vulnerable citizens.

Child Support Grant (CSG)
This grant provides financial assistance to caregivers of children under the age of 18. It is the most widely distributed grant in the country.
Old Age Pension (OAP)
Targeted at citizens aged 60 and above who are not receiving any other form of income, this grant supports the elderly in maintaining a dignified life.
Disability Grant
This grant is for individuals with physical or mental disabilities that prevent them from working for a period longer than six months.
Care Dependency Grant
Offered to caregivers of children with severe disabilities who require permanent care or support.
Foster Child Grant
Provided to individuals who are fostering children placed in their care by the court.
Grant-in-Aid
An additional grant for individuals already receiving a social grant but who need full-time care from another person.
Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant
This temporary grant was introduced to assist those who are in dire need of immediate relief. During the COVID-19 pandemic, this grant became a vital support for millions of unemployed South Africans.
